Camden Borough Council

 Retrofit of 60 Bedists

INTRODUCTION

TF Energy is in the process of managing the works for the retrofit of 60 bedsits on behalf of the Local Borough of Camden. There are a variety of energy efficient measures being installed in accordance with PAS2030 such as lighting, ventilation, storage heaters, external wall insulation, internal wall insulation, floor insulation, roof removal and insulation, solar PV and new windows/doors. The majority of the bedsits are occupied, some of which are quite vulnerable or elderly people, making our processes and communication imperative for a smooth management of the site and construction schedule.

THE CLIENT

The Local Borough of Camden has received funding through SHDF (Social Housing Decarbonisation Funding) to make energy efficient improvements to their buildings as their contribution towards the goal of "Net Zero" emissions by 2050. Further improving the cost of living and quality of life of their tenants.

THE PROBLEM

This building in particular is a mid-19th century period home that was converted into individual bedsits. Given the time of construction, the materials and appliances used are not as efficient in retaining heat and energy resulting in heat loss and cold, damp living conditions.

THE SOLUTION

Installing insulation around the entirety of the building and the roof will help to retain heat in the winter and make the summer months cooler, whilst new ventilation will extract the old air and allow fresh air to come through, preventing dampness.

Similarly, to the insulation, the new windows and doors will prevent heat loss.

Installing solar panels, LED lighting and storage heaters allow for energy efficient power usage.

THE RESULT

This project is still ongoing however we have almost completed the installation of the storage heaters, electrical works and ventilation. We have received loads of positive feedback from the tenants, not only about the new installations in their home, but by the

professionalism and approachability of our onsite team. At times these works can be intrusive, so we have ensured that the tenants remain informed, and their comfortability remains a priority to provide as little disruption as possible.

The roof and insulation works are due to begin within the coming weeks.
